Relapse

Well since I left Albuquerque I have been a bad boy. I started to eat bad food, and havent been working out regularly. I am not happy with this. I am attributing this to my lack of motivation to workout. I am now going to push myself to get back on track
I have decided to make new fitness goals.
1. 205 lbs (currently 215lbs)
2. workout 5 days a week
3. Run a Triathalon
4. get PFT ready

I hope to accomplish these in 60 days

Running/Riding Across America...kinda

I decided a while back to do a virtual run/ride across America. From Mission Beach CA to Savannah GA it is 2346 miles. At this point I have gone almost 300 miles since September of last year (I took all of December and half of January off though). At this time I am over 10% done with my virtual journey and sitting comfortably in the town of Gila Bend AZ about 100 miles east of Tuscon AZ. I have been averaging 40 miles a month so far, but in the last 2 months I have ran and road about an average of 70 miles. I figure I can average around 50 miles a month from here on out so I should make to my virtual finish point in March-ish of 2014. Wish me luck and I will keep updating my current location.

Why I weigh what I weigh

The other night I was thinking back to remember how I got to the point I was a month ago. I mean why I weighed what I weighed. I thought back to myself as a kid when I could gross out my Nana by sucking in my stomach and it would virtually touch my spine. I remember her telling my mom that she didn't feed me enough. (Which was not true). I can also remember my freshman year in gym class that when we got weighed for wrestling class I weighed a minuscule 144lbs, I was already 6 foot tall. After that I can not remember how much I weighed until I left for boot camp in 1999. The day I left for boot camp I weighed 166lbs. However, I was so nervous I hadn't eaten for 2 days. The next time after boot camp that I can remember being weighed, however it was done every year was before I left to go to Pensacola in 2004. At that time I weighed 185 lbs. So in 5 years I gained less than 20lbs. I recently checked my Marine Corps Fit Reps and noted the weights. From March of 2004 until my final Fit Rep in early 2008 I gained around 10 lbs a year ending at 214lbs. I entered the Air Force at exactly 214lbs. During OTS I dropped down to about 208lbs. Then during UPT I started gaining weight at an extremely fast pace from September of 2009 to March of 2010 I jumped to 230lbs. From that point I have been bouncing around from 220 to 225.

Been busy

I haven't posted anything in some time. I have been busy with flying, and Gidget came to ABQ to visit. I have been working hard at the gym, however I have slipped a bit on my diet. No, I haven't been eating all kinds of fatty foods. I haven't been eating enough. I have stopped eating breakfast, and have been getting very hingry and kind of binging for one meal, and then not eating for the rest of the day. I am now trying hard to getting back to a good eating schedule. This is hard due to my flying schedule.

I took some new pictures today and will post them in my pics section. I really can not see to much of a difference, but as they say you are your hardest critic.

First Fitness Goal Accomplished

When I started this blog I gave myself some attainable fitness goals. I accomplished my first goal today. That goal was to run 1.5 miles in 13mins or less. Today I went to the track on base and ran 1.5 miles in 12:40. It felt like I was running really slow because of yesterdays bike ride, but turns out I did pretty good. I am excited that it took me less than a month to accomplish a fitness goal. I have reset the goal to 12 min, and I am excited to see what goal I will accomplish next.

Manscaping Mistake

The other day I bought a Nerelco Body Groomer, which was a great investment. I used it to shave my chest which had gotten a little out of control. I think anyone that views my Friday update pics will thank me for that. I also used it to clean up some personal areas as well. I did however get a bit overzealous today. I was noticing my underarm hair was a little long, so I decided to make it a little more sightly. The problem is that I may have cut it too short and now it is very uncomfortable. I will probably regret this decision fora about  a week which should be enough time fore the hairs to grow out and stop stabbing me in the arm. I know this may be TMI, but no one is reading this blog yet.

Healthy Runner

It amazes me sometimes how some people can put something to mind and just do it for the rest of their live.  I wish I had this mans perseverance.

Look Dumb in the Gym Challenge

Did I miss an Air Force wide memo? What is the deal with the way people are dressing in the gym? I saw some guys at the gym that looked like they were having a looking stupid contest. For example they all had on the finger shoes, shortest shorts ever, and tight dirty shirts.

The TRX suspension trainer

I don't know if anyone of you has heard of the TRX (website) but it is awesome. Well the concept is awesome. I do not actually own a TRX because they cost $200. Instead I went on to youtube and watched a 10 minute video on how to make my own. I have been using my home made TRX for about3 months now and it works great. I paid about $20 for all the pieces at Home Depot.  I bought 3 lashing straps, 2 D rings and about 20'' of PVC tubing. It took me about 30 mins to actually make the TRX too. I found better lashing straps later at a Harbor Freight for about $3.

Here is the video from youtube

Shopping at the Commissary

I went shopping after my workout to grab some canned vegis. While I was at the commissary I noticed that all the food that is bad for you is setup in a maze that you have to travel through to get to the checkout. The Maze consisted of chips, gummy everything, and about 100 different types of Valentines day candy. I understand the idea of impulse buying, and this is probably a very good marketing tool. What I do not understand is why the Air Force is currently driving for a fitter more athletic Airman, and this blatant push of junk food is tolerated by the base commander.

I found this when I was looking for an article about junk food at the commissary.
Watch the video on the left of the site.  I call BS on this one I am going to go and take a picture at the Commissary tomorrow.

Here is another story I will call foul on.

Power Block Sport 5.0

I bought the Power Block Sport 5.0 about 4 months ago before leaving Little Rock. heT PB can go from 5lbs to 50lbs in 5 lb intervals. They can replace over 600 lbs of dumbbells that can cost about $800-$1000. I paid about $300 for mine, that seems like alot but its not. I absolutely love them. I was really wanting to buy the BowFlex SelecTec dumbbells, but I am glad I did not. The Power Block is about 1/3 smaller in length than the BF so there are no problems with the PB banging together during curls. The PB take about 15 secs to change from one weight setting to another. I have yet to find an exercise that I can not do with thee PB.

The Power Blocks are now being sold at the Air Force Exchange for about $100 dollars less than I paid.So not to happy about that.

Cross Fit

I added a link to the cross fit website. I have never tried to attempt the WOD because they always seem extremely difficult and I believe that I would injure myself doing them. However, I have used several of the individual moves within my workouts. I have found that the 'Air Squats' are one of the best individual workout components I have ever done. Pleas check out Xfit and see if you like it.

Runkeeper... a great running app and free

I have used Runkeeper to track my cardio workouts for about 4 months now. I have found that this app does as much if not more than the Nike + app and it is free. I used Nike+ for about 2 months and found that the website crashes every time that I try to check my runs.
